The American Museum Of The House Cat Announces Access Program for Low-Income Families Museums for All to increase accessibility of high-quality museum learning resources

Sylva, North Carolina —Today the American Museum Of The House Cat announced that it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. The program supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits visiting the American Museum Of The House Cat for a minimal fee of Three Dollars ($3.00) per person, up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Similar free and reduced admission is available to eligible members of the public at more than 850 museums across the country. Museums for All is part of the American Museum Of The House Cat’s broad commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences.

Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities. More than 850 institutions participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more. Participating museums are located nationwide, representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

MusemCats Introduce Our New Facebook Page

In this crazy year of 2020 our museum has increased its social presence.  Fans and those that follow The American Museum of the House Cat on Facebook have continued to grow  and stay active participants sharing our content, commenting and giving our ArtiCats the love they've been missing due to COVID and our relocation of the museum.  We cherish all our fans and enjoy the daily interaction with you.

If you follow our page, you may have noticed posting ceased to exist in mid November and if you have tried to contact us through the message button no one has responded.  There is a reason.  On Friday the 13th our curator, Dr. Harold Sims personal Facebook account was hacked by some nefarious person.  He did not to learn of this until later in the afternoon; however, Kimberly, our Social Media guru  Marketing Manager learned immediately when she tried to post that morning unsuccessfully to business page.  She couldn't  share anything or respond to comments or messages.  Did we say this happened on Friday the thirteenth already?  And we were going to post a sweet picture with 2 black kitties who were wishing everyone double the good luck too!

The hacker was able to completely block all access to our page and we lost administrative privileges immediately. Also, the Catman was unable to recover his personal account as the hacker changed all login verification usernames and passwords.  Kaleb tried helping him recover his account and Kimberly began trying to contact Facebook in hopes of help with the business page for the museum.  After two weeks of hearing no response from Facebook  Kimberly decided a new page was necessary so she set out to create it.  The new page is named WNC Cat Museum.  We have had to begin anew with a fresh new look.  We have no way to port over our 7987 Fans and 8246 followers.  If you are a cat lover and want to stay connected with our museum and updates from the ShelterKitties and WildlifeCritters of our Catman2Shelter, please like, check-in, & follow us on our new page.  If you would like to leave a review of a past visit please do so.  It will help us build our page since the old page can still be found.
There is good news in all of this and a silver lining. What is it you ask?  Now people have two ways to find us on Facebook!  2021 is almost here and we look forward to opening our doors in the Springtime to guests, tours and special events. The wait, we promise, will be worth it.

A Update Why Our Museum Remains Closed

8/10/2020

A CVID 19 Update

Since the beginning of 2020 we have moved our #Meowseum. Our new location is less than 1/2 a mile from the old location. The address is 5063 US Highway 441 in Sylva, NC. We aren’t open yet, however. Our admission to the museum is very reasonable. Adult ticket prices will be either $8 or $10 and children ages 6-12 will be $2 or $5. We are still working out details as to our admission cost. When we moved location we also tripled the size of our museum.

We look forward to the day we can answer “Yes” to that question. We are not open yet for two reasons. We are in the final process of placing our collection into their forever homes. Right now we are unpacking the #ARTiCats & #MuseumCats. Paintings have been hung; but, moving an entire museum is a great understanding to say the least. We are also working on our outdoor Art installation.

On top of that our state is in phase 2 of reopening (this order was renewed this week for another 5 weeks expiring on 9.11.2020 @5pm) and museums, along with other attraction & event venues have not yet been cleared to reopen their doors.

We are looking forward to opening later this year. At this time we do not know a specific date. We miss our guests dearly and hope to open our doors as soon as possible again to the public. Please keep checking Social Media because we tend to update that first. Our curator is a visionary and has made great progress over the winter & spring months...we are a small museum and there will be lots of new things to see as well as old favorites.
We appreciate the support, understanding & compassion of cat lovers have shown as we complete the move and adjust to new procedures during the reopening phase. Our museum is the legacy our curator, Dr. Sims, leaves all cat lovers and we need support to have it continue far into the future. His collection of antiquities, art & more span the centuries and is perhaps one of the largest privately owned world collection.
